The term ‘moxibustion’ is derived from the Japanese ‘Moe Kusa’, meaning ‘burning herb’. Moxa is obtained from the herbal plant ‘Artemisia Vulgaris’, commonly called mugwort.
Moxibustion is a completely safe treatment. There are many different ways of applying moxibustion and it comes in many different forms. Moxa can be applied directly to the body in cones, rolls attached to the top of an inserted needle, moxa sticks or a moxa box. All of the methods channel heat into the body. Recent research has shown that moxibustion can be a safe and effective way of turning breach babies without the need for medical intervention or drugs.
